CREATIVE JOURNEY
I am an award winning Multidisciplinary Artist and Designer with a BA in Visual Arts Practice & a BDES in Design Communications from IADT, Dublin graduating in 2001 and 2009. I was originally a graphic designer and after working in the design for print arena for many years, I decided to follow a more creative route and return to college to study Fine Art in 2006 specialising in painting, printmaking & photography. After graduating I lived and worked in Berlin and Venice working as an artist assistant to Thomas Kilpper & Anselm Reyle & various artists in the Venice Biennale. During this time, I developed my art studio practice & began developing my brand of wearable art. I have exhibited in Ireland, Germany, Italy, USA and the UK. In 2016 I was chosen to be part of the ‘Imago Mundi' Irish Collection representing Ireland as part of the Luciano Benetton collection. In 2018 I was selected to be part of the Dublin Canvas project. I am a member of the Design & Craft Council of Ireland (DCCOI) & Visual Artists Ireland (VAI)
I work in different mediums but my passion is abstract painting. While studying Fine Art I became very interested and influenced by three German painters Albert Oehlen, Katarina Grosse & Charlene Von Heyl. I love their use & sense of colour & the energy that they convey through their work. My painting practice is playful and experimentative and my approach layers and fuses bold vibrant colour with contrasting stripes, pattern, collage and energetic mark making. My work is visually diverse, my paintings and prints are process based and intuitive toying with the dynamic interplay of these different elements. I use multiple layers and juxtaposed shapes to create a unique, unpredictable and eclectic experience for the viewer creating vibrant visual landscapes to explore. My aim is to communicate a heightened sense of energy, vibrant colour and positivity. I have been working with resin for the past few years now and the addition of resin to my work adds a vibrancy & a depth of intensity to the colours & patterns & helps to convey the sense of immense energy that I want to communicate. The resulting works are full of colour, flow and movement. They are tactile, multi-dimensional, energetic and dynamic. I have been developing a body of work called 'Navigating the Labyrinth' which I started while I was living in Venice. I have always been fascinated with the symbolism of the labyrinth being a representation of the subconscious mind & the way in which we navigate and operate energetically throughout our day to day lives and the many energetic layers of consciousness. I am hugely into self-development, finding & following our own unique path & accessing & fostering the creativity we all have innately. My aim is to create art that empowers us to be ourselves, uplifts & excites us & communicates the unseen
